REMEMBERING VISCOUNT LOCKE

This is probably me favourite painting I have ever done (to date!!) - itis very large format A1 so condensing down to a small size does it no justice. It is in a very photo-realistic style which is my current style and will probably dominate my output for a while...

TYCOON

There is something about painting man made objects that I love. I'm not sure what it is but I love the colours and materials. Even better if the subject is a view of something very familiar to us and this new painting is no exception! Once again large A1 format:

LOVE IT OR HATE IT

I'll leave the answer to the question posed by this paintings title to the viewer as whether it is reference to the famous advertising campaign or the result of my painting...

CLASSIC MODEL

A play on words for the title of this one. The Routemaster bus was most certainly a classic model that I remember well from catching the 93 home from school so I was pleased to see it had been immortalised by the plastic model company Revell so in a way this painting took even longer than ever as the model had to be built before it could be painted....

OLIVE OIL

The colours and reflections of the bottle were a challenge here but very happy with how it turned out:

UP POINT ONE

Large A1 format vexel painting completed between Aug - Oct 2010.

Based on a photograph I took of the club captain at Surrey Downs, Neil "Boycie" Colwill after he had played a round of golf. By the look on this face I took it to mean he didn't play great and his handicap had probably gone up point one....

The large format means that the quality detiorates a fair bit to post it on the web, however the A4 PDF download is much better....

SIR ALAN

Another vexel work. This painting of Sir Alan Sugar was based on a photograph on the front cover of Radio Times. It's a good moody image with the background darkness taking out the detail from the right hand side of his face.
As the face is so famous I'm interested to know if it is an obvious likeness to anyone who see's it for the first time.
Having done this it has definitely inspired me to try some portraits of other famous people so watch this space....

ZOOOM

I love working in digital and this is a great example of taking a very mundane study and using the digital format to stylise it into an almost cartoon quality. All my digital works are drawn from scratch with no rendering. Each item is a seperate vector path. This was drawin in Photoshop and so is actually a Vexel work rather than a Vector work.

VECTOR GIRL

This was the first bit of digital art I did. It was based on a tutorial in Photoshop magazine and opened my eyes to the possbilities of drawing with vector paths - if only I had more time to do more!

Strictly speaking the name of the artwork is totally wrong as the word vector is a reference to a digital drawing method that can be infinitely enlarged wthout loss of quality - this can be done in a package such as Illustrator. This method is done in the same way but in Photoshop and so is pixel based which cannot be enlarged without a loss in quality. The correct name for this drawing method is Vexel. But seeing as it was named last year I'll just stick with it.

Completed in 2008

Surrey Downs Map

Probably a bit more graphic art than straight art, however still drawn using the same digital tools as my other works. This was a commission from Surrey Downs Golf Club to re-create their golf course in digital format for putting on their score cards and website.

Jake

My first stab at digital painting with so called traditional materials (i.e. not vector or vexel works). This was done in Painter and using the pastels medium. Taken from a photograph of our son Jake in 2009.
